EXQUISITE 1940\'S BLACK FELT & MINK TILT HAT + FABRIC ROSES, STEMS & FULL VEIL
download picture
description
This is a truly stunning black felt tilt hat from the fashionable 40s\'! The hat consists of a round felt structure with priceless brown mink around the front and sides. There are 2 felt bands attached to the inside of the hat, held together by an elastic \"O\" ring. There are beautiful gold furry fabric \"roses\" attached to one of the bands. A full veil cascades down to cover the face, or it can be placed towards the back, covering the hair.
Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
Labels: New York Creation/ Size 22 plus store label: CARSON, PIRIE & SCOTT - CHICAGO
The New York Creation label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous & wanted to support the New York Creation label & keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white and blue. Hats bearing this label are highly sought after.
Please keep in mind that you are buying a vintage hat, not new nor perfect! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, furs, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
