Feather 1940s Vintage Hats for Women for sale | eBay。This is a stunning and unusually large black felt pancake hat from the 1940s which consists of a small round crown surrounded by a very large felt brim edged in a see-through crin border (Crin, also known as crinoline or horsehair, is a net-like material, easy to mold and is often used in the decoration of clothing, hats and accessories.) The edging is further enhanced with black feathers and satin-like leaves. A felt cap under the brim towards the back holds the hat in place. A crin bow decorates the front of the crown. There is a matching hatpin on top of the brim. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. Large pancake cake hats were often seen on socialites of the era.The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular.
